I don't like ratting in Battlecruisers. It feels too slow and too... fragile. I like to rat in big honking battleships.
I've been working on Kla'strit's security status using a cheap Cyclone setup and while it works it feels to much like work. I want a more relaxing ratting experience.
I looked over contracts in Providence for Typhoons and found one on auction starting at 50 million that included three Large Capacitor Control Circuit rigs. Rationalizing that the ship alone was worth 50 mil, I placed a bid and was quite pleased a week later when I won it.
Last night I shuttled over to 9UY where it was located and bought modules and ammo to outfit it. I went with what I know about ratting: missiles and shield tank, with lots of PDS modules for perma-running Afterburner and shield booster. The end result:
If you're thinking "Oh My GOD!" in disbelief, I don't blame you. But it should be more than capable of getting the job done. If the missiles and drones prove to be sufficient, I'll swap out the artillery for some salvagers and tractor beams but really I'm most interested in the security status improvements.
Once it was setup, I scouted myself back to Paxton space and was about to start ratting when the server had a crash. Ah well, I'm ready for tonight.
Fake EDIT: I know Amarr drones with EM damage would be better against Sanshas, but Kla'strit doesn't have any Tech II drones available to him except Gallente ones. And he cannot use Tech II large artillery or cruise missiles.
how about switching out one of those pdu's for a beta reactor control: capacitor power relay?
ReplyDeleteI know it will reduce your passive shield tank but you're not passively tanking...
Is it bad to admit that Minmatar ships and their setups still mystify me?
ReplyDeleteJust to note, Amarr drones with EM damage would not be better against Sanshas. The higher base DPS on Gallente T2 drones makes them a superior option for Sanshas/Blood Raiders. There is effectively no reason to use Amarr drones. Ever. The Templar is an exception, but you're not ratting in a carrier.
ReplyDeleteBattlecruisers and Battleships are too big for my taste. I rat in Stealth Bombers. Hound is perfect for Angels, Purifier perfect for Sansha.
ReplyDeleteThe rats go down fast too. And if a hostile shows up, just warp off and engage the cloak =)
Squizz
How effective is she? I mean my harbinger can do great damage and I think her tank hover near the 35K mark so I would love to know the comparison..
ReplyDeleteI just tried it today at lunch for 15 minutes, and the battleships were easily dispatched by the missiles and drones. Of course, they were lower level rats so I'll try agian tonight against some more.
ReplyDeleteAlso, shield resisted damage easily, I never engaged the booster. Definitely easy mode.
I have only every used Passive Shield tanking, and that is on my alt, so it is a Drake right now. Needless to say this mistifies me. Is this a typical active shield tanking fit? Does it really work well? In general, how low does your shield end up getting...Less than 50%?
ReplyDeleteObviously the Drake is a passive tanker, but was curious for other hulls.
Active Shield tanking is a huge topic and this Typhoon is not the best example since it only has 4 mids, but for ratting it doesn't need much.
ReplyDeleteThe basic idea behind active shield tanking is high resists and a booster to rep damage faster than your enemies can dish it out. Typically accompanied by cap booster. You can absorb a huge amount of incoming damage as long as you have cap.
It is no surprise to me that the Typhoon can deal damage like that. Almost nobody realizes that it is one of the most beastly ships in the entire game. Also, it is the most skill-intensive T1 battleship that I know of, using all three main weapon types simultaneously.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, as far as I'm aware Gallente drones are generally considered to be more effective against Sanshas; they do so much more damage.

Same DPS, but 191 active tank vs. your 166 (still capstable). Also, has 53k EHP, or 20k EHP more than your build. Give this a whirl.
