I've been training leadership skill lately not only so I can be a good sqaud / wing booster when in a position of command but also so I can fit out a nice Vulture Command Ship. My requirements for the warfare links are done and I can now fly my latest addition to the fleet, Rearguard:
On paper it doesn't look too intimidating: anemic DPS, decent passive tank due to resistances, rather unremarkable. But let's see what it does to the
average ship of the line battleship. Here is a Megathron sniper's stats before and after applying the squad commander from the Rearguard:
From my skills, there are more shield and armour hitpoints, better agility, and longer targeting range. From the Rearguard's warfare link modules there are better resistances and lower signature radius. The end result is a ship that can absorb much more damage and get out slightly faster. With a Siege Warfare Mindlink implant I could get even better resistances and more shield points for ships underneath my command level.
A shield tanking ship like a Rokh benefits even more as its natural resistances are augmented even more by the Command ship.
Decide yourself what you want to do. Heavy tank and hold as long as possible or whore yourself on killmails? 2 Sensor Boosters and 4 bare railguns with damage of interceptor are basically waster slots and make your build... diplomacy aside... a shit build. Either make maximal possible tank and do not look on your locking time, or be shiny ship without links.
ReplyDeleteI don't entirely agree, if it's out at sniper range it has more than enough tank to survive. If it's going to be in the thick of it then it's not worth the sensor boosters.
ReplyDeleteOne note, drop the scripts from the sensor boosters, one of each script is worse than 2 unscripted.

Your role, should you choose to accept it, is to SURVIVE, while providing gang link bonuses to your squad. It is not to do DPS. Any guns you put on your FLEET command ship should be for defense - smalls, or missiles, or light drones, etc.
This passively tanked Vulture has 163k EHP, a 636DPS passive tank, and enough DPS to hurt drones/inties once it locks them. It's even capstable. Maybe drop a LSE for a propultion mod, but otherwise this is what you might want to consider.
Oh, and rails suck. Avoid them.
