Grandpa,
You didn't talk much about the war. The story of how you lied about your age to enlist and your time in England during the Blitz usually came from grandma as she loved to tell stories. I'm glad you came back. I miss you now.

ReplyDeleteMy father did the same, trying to get into the US Marines at the beginning of the war. Part of me is glad they caught on and sent him home until he was 18.
ReplyDeleteHe ended up serving in the Army in the Philippines at the end of the war.
I lost my grandfather last year and not a day goes by that I don't think about him. My hat's off to both our grandfathers and the rest of our military and veterans.
