Emergency

So, things were going well with my short story for the contest I've been working on. I was about 60% through the first draft write and yesterday during a writing session I was called from the boys' school. My wife got there to pick them up and was in so much abdominal pain they called an ambulance to take her to the hospital.

The last 22 hours has been a lot of Mrs Kodachi in pain, hospital waiting, xrays, ultrasounds, drugs, and a diagnosis of a blocked gall bladder bile duct by a gall stone. Yeesh. Like my wife needed that!

Anyways, she's probably got to have at least one if not two procedures to correct it, hopefully the first today but we'll see. Fortunately we have family close by to help watch the kids while she's in the hospital.

Needless to say, no Fiction Friday today! Blogging will continue next week when things get back to normal.

(Free state healthcare for the win, BTW!)

  2. Well that sucks. Hope she gets well soon.
I'm jealous about the healthcare. I'm guessing your Canadian...

    1. Yes. I couldn't imagine facing this stress and having money concerns over affording the care on top. :(

  4. Free healthcare? I assume you just mean you don't pay for it directly.
Or do you mean you don't have insurance and don't pay any income taxes at the moment?

Best wishes to your family health either way.

    1. Yes, I don't pay for it directly. My provincial and Federal taxes contribute to a province run insurance program called OHIP: Ontario Health Insurance Program. Then whenever I need health care for any reason I just present my OHIP card.

  5. The pain is ridiculous, I know ... but I'm confident your wife will do well. Stones like this - whether connected to the gall bladder or kidney - are really fairly common and reasonably easily dealt with. They just hurt like holy hell. I'm guessing what they're going to do is, if it's large enough, "blast" a time or two to reduce its size so it can pass more easily. Healing blessings through all of that, and the through the pain. As the phrase has already been coined: "This too shall pass!" 8-)
