March has been a good month for me in terms of PvP killboard stats, seeing lots of action and getting a fair number of kills despite being run ragged with a laid up Mrs Kodachi suffering from a rebellious appendix and long recovery period.
Take the good with the bad I suppose.
So it came to be that on Sunday night I was facing the prospect of finally breaking the 60 killmails in a month barrier that has eluded me for so long.
(Usual disclaimer: I know getting 60 KMs in a week is easy for some, but for me with about 2 hours of PvP time a week getting 10 in a single session is huge so hitting 60 in a month is a big deal.)
I've previously I reached 59 in March 2014 powered by a very busy warzone around Fliet, and I got to 58 in August last year, but that magic number of 60 still eluded me. But as I said, March was going very well and consistently providing up opportunities such that I was at 53 killmails going into the last PvP night for me. All I needed was to get in on 7 kills...
The night started promisingly with some war target fleets in space but we got sandwiched between two of them and I lost a Svipul to a late warp in to a plex where we were forced to run from superior numbers. We got a couple kills including a sweet rare Scorpion capture but I was in a pod during those and missed out. We went back to Fliet for regrouping and reshipping and I was hopeful a second outing would be more fruitful.
Unfortunately fate intervened. We got involved in a larger Gallente Militia operation which took a good part of an hour to setup and move into position but ultimately fizzled out when the enemy decided to not engage (admittedly it was a trap). We went back to Fliet and tried to go on one more roam but failed to pick up any more fights.
With a heavy heart, I had to log. Perhaps April will be the lucky month.
