Battlecruisers.
Our Rogue Squadron doctrine applies to frigates, destroyers, and cruisers very nicely. For a quick refresher, check out this infographic:
From last year so may have some inaccuracies now |
Sometimes, though, we run into situations where just a bit more power is called for. We have a Vexor Navy Issue loadout and even an Ishtar loadout, but it would be nice to be able to slot in a cheaper yet bigger ship that lends itself to natural training progression at a slightly lower cost. A Vexor Navy issue is 60+ million, but a Tech 1 Brutix is around 45 million, or a Myrmidon for 50 million. Not a huge savings but could potentially open up some interesting possibilities...
Except BOTH combat battlecruisers for Gallente have a big old bonus to Armour Repairer amount.
The issue lies in wasted opportunity. I want a ship that I can slot into Rogue Squadron cruiser sized fleet which make use of logistics for survivability, thus implying a good solid buffer armour tank. While one can make that work with the Brutix or Myrmidon, you are essentially wasting the bonus to armour repair amount. While that bonus is great if you are running active tanks, its not what I want in this case.
Why not the Talos, you ask? The attack battlecruiser comes with baggage such as a higher price tag than even the Vexor Navy Issue and battleship sized weaponry which I am not really looking for at this point.
What I want, what I really want, is a drone combat battlecruiser with a bonus to buffer armour tanking in the Gallente line. Since I can't have that, I'm going to take a look at the Amarr ships.

How about this: rather than change a number of hulls instead add a gallente logi with a bonus to hull repping. Gallente ships traditionally have a wodge of structure, and with the transverse bulkheads/rigs it becomes a viable buffer tanking strategy.... except there is no real way to rep it during a fight.
ReplyDeleteYou get to keep the speed desperately needed to apply DPS with blasters and to free up some of the low slots for damage application.
Given there is no way to increase hull resists with the exception of a DC, this shouldn't need too much balancing I would hope... and you're only changing the one hull if you did need to.
Thing is, if I'm the enemy FC, why would I primary the brick-BC that has less dps than the Vexors on the field. So it's more expensive than a Vexor, slower than a Vexor, does less dps, and will be the last thing standing after the fight is won or lost. That said, after Aegis maybe putting 4xHAM plus a Med Neut on and considering it best for taking on enemy logi?
ReplyDeleteBeing the last thing they'll want to primary might make it a good command position for the FC though.
Maybe something like this?

I'll never understand why the EFT format has the lows at the top and the highs on the bottom. :)
The active tank bonus is just icing.

Fits easily; Restrained MWD can be swapped for Compact if necessary. 674 DPS with Gardes, 542 with Hammerheads. 74.2k EHP vs. omni (52.5k armor). Swap a Trimark for an Anti-Explosive Pump if you don’t like the 55% explosive resist.

Again: Relatively easy fit, nothing fancy or tricky. This fit is more geared toward a logistics-friendly resist tank because it can’t muster the same EHP. The relative lack of power grid steers it toward what the Brutix has always done best anyway, which is grind anything right in front of it to a fine powder. Drones are used as anti-tackle; Hammerheads take paper DPS to 750 if you have big enough (or painted and webbed enough) targets. 65.2k EHP (43.7k armor), 692 DPS.
